Flood Warning issued on 6 Jan 2024 10:44
Eastern Yar
Water levels in the Eastern Yar remain high. Levels at Sandown are now slowly falling but extensive out of bank flooding through the Yar Valley continues. Moreton Common and Golf Links Road are flooded. Impacts are expected at Fort Holiday Park and Sandown sewage works as ditches struggle to drain to the main river. Impacts are also expected at Nicholas Close, Brading. Bembridge sluice is operating normally, however, as we are currently in a Neap tide cycle, the amount of water that can drain out of the marsh over high tide is significantly reduced. We continue to monitor levels and will ensure the river remains free of any reported blockages. Please ensure any products used to protect gardens and property from flooding are operating. The next five days are forecast to be mainly dry. This Flood Warning will be updated by 12:00 on 07/01/2024.

Flood Warning issued on 5 Jan 2024 09:45
Eastern Yar
Water levels in the Eastern Yar remain high. Levels at Sandown are rising, and will continue to rise until 17:00 this evening (05/01/2024). Currently, there is extensive out of bank flooding through the Yar Valley. Moreton Common and Golf Links Road are flooded. Impacts are expected at Fort Holiday Park and Sandown sewage works as ditches struggle to drain to the main river. Impacts are also expected at Nicholas Close, Brading. This is following yesterday's rain as 27mm was recorded at Wroxhall, which is a significant amount of rain in a short period of time. This is in addition to the prolonged rainfall which has been affecting the area over the last few months. Bembridge sluice is operating normally. We continue to monitor levels and will ensure the river remains free of any reported blockages. Please ensure any products used to protect gardens and property from flooding are operating. The next five days are forecast to be mainly dry. This Flood Warning will be updated by 12:00 on 06/01/2024.

Flood Warning issued on 4 Jan 2024 23:17
Eastern Yar
The water level in the Eastern Yar at Sandown is high and rising. In the last 12 hours Knighton has recorded 30mm of rain, following weeks of prolonged wet weather. Currently, there is extensive out of bank flooding through the Yar Valley. Moreton Common and Golf Links road is flooded. From around 09:00 on 05/01/2024 Fort Holiday Park and Sandown Sewage works could flood as ditches struggle to drain. After high tide (05:30) on 05/01/2024 impacts are also expected at Nicholas Close, Brading. Showery conditions are forecast until later on this evening. At Sandown, the river will rise until approximately 13:00 on Friday 05/01/2024. It will remain at its peak for several hours before it begins to slowly fall. Bembridge sluice is fully operational, but the neap tide will restrict the amount of water which can drain from the river for the next few days. As a result, Brading Marshes will flood. If you have it, please install flood protection now. We recommend leaving it in place until Saturday. This Flood Warning will be updated by 15:00 on Friday 05/01/2024.

Flood Warning issued on 11 Dec 2023 09:25
Eastern Yar
The water level in the Eastern Yar at Sandown remains very high but is slowly falling. In the last 8 days 108mm (more than a month’s rain) has been recorded at Wroxall. Currently, there is extensive out of bank flooding affecting gardens, land and roads. Land ditches around Sandown and Brading are struggling to drain to the river, especially at Brading. This morning (11/12/23) the weather is dry, but further light showers (up to 5mm) are forecast this afternoon. The river will lower for most of the day, although a small tidal range is acting to reduce the amount of water that can drain to sea. From midnight (12/12/23), heavy rain is forecast with up to 20mm expected. If this volume of rain affects the area, surface water will flood property at Nicholas Close and the river level could be similar to that recorded on Saturday (09/12/23). We have operated Bembridge sluice and continue to monitor the forecast. Please ensure that any products used to protect property are installed tonight. This message will be updated by 11:00 on Tuesday 12/12/23.

Eastern Yar
The Eastern Yar is high and rising steadily. Rain cleared the area by 23:00 last night 16/11/2022 and no further rain is currently expected until Sunday. The river level is peaking earlier than initially expected and we were able to reduce the river level at Bembridge further than anticipated. This means that the outlook has improved slightly. At Sandown, the level should peak by 22:00 17/11/2022. Out of bank flooding is currently affecting Fort Holiday Park and Moreton Common Road. Ditches around Sandown sewage works may become full as the river peaks. At Bembridge, the river may continue to exceed the level at which we expect property flooding with each high tide. The river will rise until around 20:45 17/11/2022 before it can fall with the outgoing tide. Property flooding is also expected for four hours following the high tide at 06:15 Friday morning 18/11/2022. We recommend keeping flood protection in place. This Flood Warning will be updated by 14:00 on Friday 18/11/2022.
